The Second Phase Of Laikipia County NHIF Mobilization

The second phase of Laikipia County NHIF mobilization kicked off on Monday 26th Nov with a goal of reaching out and enrolling all households in the County into NHIF.
It is an exercise that has seen the Governor H.E Ndiritu Muriithi, his Deputy H.E John Mwaniki, Health Department Officials led by the CEC Dr. Lenai Kamario and other Heads of Departments transverse different parts of the county engaging members of the public on why they should enroll their households into NHIF.
52% of the 110,000 households in Laikipia County were reached in the first phase of registration which happened early this year. The exercise which was led by the Governor, his Deputy, Health Deparrment Officials and other county officials entailed house to house visits by Community Health Volunteers who enrolled people into NHIF and also sought to establish the financial background of households in the county so as to identify those households that cannot afford to pay the monthly contribution into the health kitty.
Out of the 52% enrolled households, 17% ware identified as needy and in need of subsidization. The government has set out plans on subsidizing their contribution into NHIF with an aim of helping the families to attain financial stability with time so as to be able to gradually reduce the number of those in need of subsidization.
This second phase of registration has seen an increase in the number of community health volunteers to 647. This number shall be distributed into all the wards in the county with a mandate to equip residents with preventive health care measures. They are also playing a major role in the ongoing NHIF registration as they have been mandated to ensure 100%uptake into NHIF across the county.
Laikipia County Government, we are committed to ensuring Affordable Quality Health Care to all our people. To this end, we have invested heavily in the health docket to ensure that our health facilities are well equipped.
This is in line with our manifesto goal number 5 of ensuring Access to Quality and Affordable Health care.
We continue to urge those who have not yet registered into NHIF, not to be left out in this second phase as we believe a healthy county is a wealthy county.
