Pomp, Colour As Laikipia County Devolves Jamhuri Day Fete To Rumuruti

It was pomp and colour at Rumuruti Stadium as Laikipia people celebrated 55th Jamhuri Day.
It was the first time that the county was holding the Jamhuri Day celebrations outside Nanyuki. Rumuruti is the designated county headquarters.
This years Madaraka Day celebration were held in Nyahururu while Nanyuki hosted the Mashujaa Day fete.
The people of Laikipia and their leaders led by HE governor Ndiritu Murithi, Deputy governor John Mwaniki, County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha, County Speaker Waigwa, Laikipia west Mp Patrick Mariru and the Rumuruti town MCA Suge and his fellow honorable from other wards were united in celebrating the occasion.
This being the 55th Jamhuri day celebrations all over the country it has been a colorful day in Laikipia county. Jamhuri day is considered one of the most important public holidays in Kenya due to the reflection of the nations cultural heritage and her journey to independence from the British colonialists.
Laikipia county being one of the counties in Kenya also celebrate this important day in the history of our country. The day that marks the countrys independence from the United Kingdom that occurred on 12th December 1963. The county government has been honouring heroes who fought for independence.
HE the Governor pointed out the need to support indigenous technology some of which was displayed during Indigenous Technology Festival held two day earlier at the same venue under the theme: Harnessing technology through culture.
The event brought together 26 communities in the county whereby they were able to showcase different technologies from each culture. They showcased the different herbs from the respective ethnic groups, traditional foods, clothes, fermented milk/porridge and the guards.
Governor Muriithi said his administration will support these technologies to become commercial.
The governor also talked about the reforms in the county public service stating that the public service board. The board that is working hard to ensure they establish and abolish offices in its public service, confirming appointments and exercising disciplinary control in the county.
Laikipia people to continue registering with NHIF to access quality healthcare for their families.
