Kiambu County coming for a bench-marking tour to Laikipia has once again reaffirmed the Countys position as a regional leader in revenue management and public service delivery.
The visiting team comprising Kiambu County Assembly members of the Budget and Appropriations Committee lauded the strides Laikipia County has made towards the surpassing revenue targets. In particular, the leaders were impressed with the professionalism in the Laikipia Revenue Board whose initiatives in modernizing the workforce have seen the realization of the set revenue targets.
The initiatives range from automation of tax collections, setting targets for the staff and giving incentives for the best performing members of the staff to motivate the workforce. Further, the Revenue Board has set monthly reviews to assess progress and to detect and mitigate shortfalls early.
In addition, the County Revenue Board is at liberty to exercise utmost professionalism in staff management, with the results reflected in Laikipia County appearing among the ten best performing counties in the country on own source revenue generation.
An exemplary staff management also saw the revenue board cutting the cost of the wage bill by a record 53 million shillings, representing a 42% drop in salary expenditure.
Laikipia County exceeded its own source revenue target in the year 2018-2019 financial year, collecting Ksh 819 million shillings against the target Kshs800 million shillings. The county targets to collect one billion shillings for financial year 2019-2020.
Overall the Kiambu MCAs expressed optimism with the Laikipia County development model, saying the it is implementable on the national level.
