Traditional Birth Attendants To Partner With Antenatal Clinics

Laikipia County Government through the office of the Deputy Governor and the office of the First Lady has launched a program dubbed "Goat For Every Delivery" that seeks to encourage traditional birth attendants also known as Traditional Birth Companions (TBC) assist and guide expectant mothers in their localities to attend antenatal clinics.
Every Traditional Birth Companion that guides a woman to deliver in a hospital shall be awarded a goat as a way of appreciating their efforts in helping the county government eradicate cases of infant deaths during delivery.
Laikipia Deputy Governor John Mwaniki has acknowledged the significant role played by traditional birth attendants in assisting expectant mothers deliver lives into this world. He however noted that times have changed and modern health facilities are now available to deliver in.
To this end, he has called upon the traditional birth attendants to work hand in hand with health assistants in their respective areas to see to it that every child is born in a hospital.
