Meru MCAs, Revenue Board Bench Marks With Laikipia

Nanyuki, Monday, 30 September 2019..Meru county assembly members of the finance committee and officials of the Meru revenue board toured Laikipia county to bench mark on revenue collection.
it is the 18th county to visit Laikipia for the purpose of bench marking. The visiting team lauded the strides Laikipia County has made to surpass revenue targets.
In addition, the County revenue board is at liberty to exercise utmost professionalism in staff management, with the result reflected in Laikipia county appearing the best performing county in the country on own source revenue generation.
The team confess that in Meru county they have four systems in revenue collection which performs very poor compared to Laikipia where they have automated system, setting target for the staff and giving incentives for the best performing member of the staff and taking them for training to motivate the workforce.
An exemplary staff management also saw the revenue board cutting the cost of the wage bill by a record of 53 million shillings, representing 42% drop in salary expenses.
Laikipia county exceeded it's own source revenue target in the financial year 2018-2019, collecting 815.7 million shillings against the set target 800 million shillings. The county targets to collect 1 billion shillings for the financial year 2019-2020.
All applauded Laikipia county government for their effort and good strategy used in revenue collection. At least we have learned something in revenue collection this is in health tax, and natural resources tax to be specific where they were not generating any tax.
