Having our medical Staff safe is the first and most critical step fight against any health crisis and such is with Covid-19. With that, County Government have embarked on securing protective gear for our Healthworkers.
Yesterday, County Department of Health yesterday recieved the first bunch of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs). It included gowns and masks.
The handing over was flagged by Governor, HE Ndiritu Muriithi in the company of County Commissioner Mr. Daniel Nyameti, and with representatives from the Kenya Army, Kenya Airforce, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Prisons - at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital, NTRH.
The team also inspected ward facility which would be a potential host of any case, its equipement and preparedness. To all that, facility and staff preparedness, we are checked and we even continue with further training to ensure utmost safety of our medical team.
It's worth noting, our Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) have been produced out of a collaboration effort between our County Government and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) utilising our Innovators under the Laikipia Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program.
DeKUT has provided engineering support, the design, and training for our Innovators under the guidance of our Health Department. The designs and materials have all been certified and approved by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board as well as by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), subsequently ushering in mass production.
Worth to note is, these Innovators and entrepreneurs are incubated in our Laikipia Innovation Program, validating County's support for our Innovators and SMEs who are now our critical team in this fight against Covid-19.
The emphasis still remains, the surest way to be safe is #StayAtHome and if people must be out, they must observe #SocialDistancing which 1.5 metres apart. Also many times as possible, hands should be properly cleaned or sanitised.
