Scores Of Health Professionals Show Strong Interest To Work In Laikipia

A total of 8,249 health professionals have shown a strong interest in joining the Laikipias public health system.
The professionals are competing for the 121 job opportunities that the Ministry of health has allocated the countys health department to strengthen the universal healthcare programme.
According to the county public service board, the professionals applied either directly to the Public Service Commission or through the county public service board via delegation from the PSC.
Those who have expressed their interest to work with the county government include five specialists, 301 medical officers, 1,100 clinical officers and more than 2,500 nurses.
Of the total number of the applicants, 670 sent their applications through the PSC while 7,579 sent through the county public service board.
Through the Council of Governors, the PSC has asked county public service boards to fast track the recruitment and placement process to enable the programme to take off. The county public service board are expected to conclude the exercise by Thursday.
Successful candidates are expected to support efforts by the county government to combat the deadly Covid-19. Recruitment of more health workers is part of the mitigation measures instituted by the government to contain the spread of the pandemic.
Laikipia has developed ideal quarantine and isolation centres in the structures previously used by British army soldiers at the Nanyuki Showground, Laikipia University and in Ndururumo and Nanyuki High schools.
These are expected to support the already facilities in various health facilities. Laikipia has a unique UHC that focuses on preventive, rather than curative measures.
Meanwhile, a total of 231, 000 travelers were screened for Covid-19 at various entry points in Laikipia in the first two weeks of April.
Screening points in Laikipia East registered an average of 6,293 people per day day while those in Laikipia West had an average of 8,681 per day.
The county was the first to put screening points that operate for 24-hours in all its eight entry points immediately after the first case of Covid-19 was reported in the country.
