New Partnership To Boost Water Harvesting And Storage Efforts

The County Government of Laikipia has signed an agreement with the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority to strengthen the existing efforts to avail water for domestic use and production.
Governor Ndiritu Muriithi and CAS Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Dr. Andrew Tuimur led a team of county and ministry officials in the signing of the memorandum of understanding in Nanyuki on Thursday.
The partnership centres on collaborations to develop rehabilitate water infrastructure such as dams and water pans, enhancing water security and storage and increasing water for production. The collaboration will also extend to provision of water services as a mitigation of droughts flood effects in a sustainable manner, in addition to creating and maintaining and expanding of existing bulk water supply for water service providers.
Additionally, the agreement will cover partnership on drilling, test pumping and equipping of boreholes.
Most importantly, the partnership seeks to bring about a culture of water harvesting and storage advocacy, where the county has developed regulations where building approvals will only be issued to developers who have accommodated water harvesting and storage plans.
