Laikipia has launched its statistical abstract for the year 2020, the third edition of the publication since 2018 in what marks another step by the county in the progressive use of verified and up-to-date data to make project decisions.
Governor Ndiritu Muriithi led county government officials in the event that was attended by representatives from the State Department of Planning, Commission on Revenue Allocation, Controller of Budget, the national bureau of statistics, the banking sector and the administrative units among other guests.
Guest speakers lauded Laikipia County for pioneering the development model based on verifiable statistics to make priorities, and called on other counties to emulate the same.
I congratulate Laikipia County Government for being the leader developing and using cutting edge data to make interventions, said Commission for Revenue Allocation Chair Dr. Jane Kiringai. Data is the bedrock of decision making. Unless interventions are data driven, decisions will always be made based on opinions.
The revenue allocation chair said Laikipia demonstrated the best use of the latest data to make clear policies during the Covid-19 interventions such as the food aid and the subsidized loans for small businesses.
Office of the Controller of Budget representative Abdub Bante hailed Laikipia for charting a new path on investments in data collection, terming it a rare achievement since other counties are yet to demonstrate the same.
Governor Ndiritu Muriithi called for a shift in mindset on the utilization of data by policy makers to design useful interventions, and urged investors to apply data to make investment decisions.
We can make proper use of correct data to resolve issues pertaining development and resource allocation, the Governor said.
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics representative Bii Kipngetich expressed confidence with the data contained in the abstract, saying the bureaus technical team validated the improvements in the edition.
Principal Secretary in the State Department of Planning Saitoti Torome said the statistical abstract is very rich and resourceful, covering the administrative, economic and political pillars of the countrys vision 2030. Mr. Torome said the state bureau will help Laikipia County sustain the development of the publication.
