New Vocational and Technical Institute set to be opened in Laikipia

Finally, Laikipia has a technical institute. Laikipia East Technical and Vocational College is set to open its doors to pioneer students in January. The institute is start off with diploma and certificate courses in ten disciplines.Two other such institution are also about to open in Muhotetu in Laikipia West and Mowarak in Laikipia. Empowering our youth with technical know-how will lead to innovation-based development.

Draft Bill on People With Disabilities

Governor Ndiritu Muriithi today received a draft Bill on People With Disabilities from representatives of People With Disabilities in Laikipia. The governor said the Bill will be presented to the County Assembly. They scheduled another meeting in a week. The representatives briefed the Governor about an People With Disabilities football tournament which will be held in Nakuru. The governor pledged support for the local team.

Commissioning of Slaughter house at Kimanjo

Governor Ndiritu Muriithi on Saturday commissioned a slaughterhouse at Kimanjo owned by Lakipia Livestock Marketing Cooperative Society. The govt will help livestock keeper get good value for hides and skins. The county government has sponsored 10 flayers for training at Athi River to improve quality of hides and skins. A women group based at Kimanjo also involved in valued addition of hides will be also be imparted with skills courtesy of Mr Sambasiva Rao, MD of Alpharama LTD. Laikipia loses Sh30 million annually due to poor techniques of treating hides. The county government will unlock the potential of this industry.

Spearheading Laikipia Enterprise Fund, Cooperatives Revolving Fund

Scaling up the operations of Laikipia Enterprise Fund and the Cooperatives Revolving Fund will be a key enabler in Governor Ndiritu Muriithi’s strategy to create 30,000 jobs. To achieve this objective, the two funds require robust systems and right partnership in place.

Stakeholders were today brainstorming on this at a meeting in Nanyuki. This will culminate in more resources for the Funds.
