On September 10, 2024, Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI) board of directors paid HE. Governor Joshua Irungu EGH a courtesy call in his Nanyuki officer.
The team was led by the Institute Board Chair, Dr. David Nkedianye and the Institution CEO, Dr. Patrick Omondi OGW.
Discussions centred on collaborating with Laikipia County on promoting sustainable research development, supporting environmental conservation and enhancing the socio-economic well-being of the region.
The WRTI intends to establish research centres in Laikipia North and Rumuruti, which will boost Laikipia Countys capacity in environment conservation while also creating employment opportunities within our county.
Laikipia team invited the WRTI into the process of creating the Kirimon Game Reserve and the development of a long-term plan for ecological health and community development through research-based recommendations.
Both side also took serious note on conservation and rehabilitation of Lake Olbolosat in partnership with Nyandarua County and other downstream river-flowing counties owing to its significance to the communities within Laikipia and the neighbour counties, downstream.
The WRTI team also informed the Governor of their intention to relocate the WRTI offices to Nanyuki, a gesture that Governor Irungu welcomed.
