Preparations for the Mr. and Miss Tourism Laikipia Pageant are in the final stage with 25 contestants attending a one-week training in Laikipia North ahead of the official crowning on 22nd September 2018
Trade and Tourism CECM Biwott Tirop flagged the contestants outside at the County House on Sunday evening, for the week-long boot camp at Twala Culture Centre in Il Polei. The main event which, will be held on September 22nd Saturday at the Nanyuki Sports Club, will be the first of its kind as Laikipia will be the first county to introduce Mr. Tourism to the Pageant.
The grand finale will be held under the theme; Promotion of Laikipia as an investment, tourism and cultural destination.
Mr Tirop expressed his joy that the auditions were conducted fairly and smoothly and urged the contestants to be competitive, disciplined, quick to learn and to showcase their talents through the necessary resources they will be provide with at the camp.
The contestants who were selected from the eight auditions conducted throughout the county are the best of the best. A few were unfortunately unable to join for the launching but they will join the rest by Tuesday, he said. After the event, we expect the winners to use the knowledge gained from the training to market the county since Laikipia is known for its tourist destinations and other activities like the motorsport as we have very good race tracks. We also expect them to have a wealth of knowledge about the county and use various platforms especially our app, Destination Laikipia, to advertise the countys tourism and rich cultural heritage.
He also assured the male contestants that the winner will get sponsorship to participate in Mr. Tourism and Culture Universe 2018 happening in Malaysia. Also in attendance was Stephen Kamau, the MCA Thingithu Ward and Chairman of the Trade Tourism Enterprise Development Committee who wished the contestants the best of luck in the training.
