COUNTY GOVERNMENT PROMISE TO NEW NANYUKI MARKET TRADERS.
1. Cleanliness and orderliness ensuring that the market is clean all round and traders have organized themselves in an orderly fashion besides having some ample spaces for pedestrians and vehicular circulation. Refuse disposal sites and proper civic education on hygiene are other elements that will espouse the market tidiness. An additional 5 casuals will be employed in the market. Trade department will work very closely with environment, public health, enforcement and revenue departments to ensure this is achieved.
2. Upgrade of the traders stalls: The current stalls that traders are using were the same ones they used to have while on the road reserve. They are irregular, out of shape and not appealing. This is a clear contrast to the image of the market. For the market to attract high caliber of the clients and to sustain the current clientele there is need to upgrade and standardize those stalls.Tahe County Enterprise Fund will advance loans repayable within a short period to traders so that they can upgrade
3. Provision for parking-With the anticipation of an increased customers there is need to provide ample parking spaces for customers. The space left behind after relocation that is adjacent the Polytechnic fence and Social Hall will be upgraded by providing murram and markings. The road reserve on the Irura Cereals road can also be utilized for parking upon its rehabilitation. Infrastructure department will provide manpower and equipment to provide temporary measures as we wait for a large scale improvement of the facilities
4. Enabling Nanyuki residents enjoy orderly and healthy business environment
Though the traders relocated to the new market willingly; some rogue hawkers may take advantage and return back to their initial locations. This therefore, means the enforcement department must be effective and ensure that no trader is operating from undesignated locations and causing inconvenience to the residents.
5. Revenue collection
Each stall will be tied to a license number for identification, regulatory compliance and to ensure all traders are paying the necessary fees that enable the government to provide service to the people. Market administration will be jointly done by the county and a strengthened market committee. Revenue department will work closely with market committee and enforcement officers to ensure no revenue leakage.
It is the intention of the County Government of Laikipia through the Department of Trade and other relevant line departments to continue improving the business environment.
The county shall continue working with all stakeholders in the business sector and seek ways of enhancing their working environment and ease of doing business.
