Revamped Registry, GIS Lab To Provide Real Time Data On Land

NANYUKI, 23 September 2019.................The Geographic Information System (GIS) laboratory and refurbished land registry was launched and handed-over to H.E Ndiritu Muriithi in Laikipia County.
The GIS lab will help in mapping out all land and its ownership across the county which will prevent fraud. The refurbished registry will make it easy for citizens to access information related to land such as searches.
Land CAS Hon Gideon Mungáro while officially handing over the facilities said, by March when digitization of registries in nine counties will be complete, land searches will be available at the click of a button.
The Lands ministry has already reduce the time it takes to do land transaction from 73 to 12 days.
The refurbished land registry aims to support the county in efficient management, storage, digitization and administration of land records. It's also a step toward achieving the Laikipia titling programme.
Laikipia county is one of the nine counties; Tana River, Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Marsabit, Samburu and Nandi which is set to benefit with the planned land reforms in community lands in Kenya through the Land Governance Programme.
The lands governance programme is a European Union funded programme implemented by Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations in partnership with the ministry of lands and physical planning,the National Land Commission,the National Government and the beneficiary county government.
The European Union also handed-over the conservation agriculture tools to the county government, this being a farming system that promotes maintenance of a permanent soil cover and enhance more production.
