Laikipia County Health Stakeholders Steering Committee Meets

Nanyuki, Thursday, 31st October 2019..Laikipia County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr Lenai Kamario today convened the first ever County Health Stakeholders Forum Steering committee meeting where representatives from the NGOs, development partners, Private health care providers, PWDs, FBOs, women and special groups converged to discuss how to co-ordinate and implement health matters in the county.
In attendance were representatives from NHIF,CHMTs, Pastoralists, Horticultural Farms, Ranches, the Business Community clusters, and non-profit making Organisation based in Laikipia County.
Worth noting is that stakeholders have a social responsibility to act for the good of the entire healthcare system and thus the need to have an integrated engagement with all the key players and drivers of Health.
During the meeting there emerged the need to constitute a Health Stakeholders Executive committee to be the organ that will spearhead and plan for the Stakeholders Forums in the County
In the spirit of Joint planning, Joint implementation, Joint Monitoring and Evaluation and Joint Re-programming, it was agreed that:
1. The County Health Stakeholders forum will be the gateway or entry point for any actor who wants to implement health activities in the county
2. The forum will be holding quarterly review meetings to see progress of each actor in each thematic area (preventive, promotive, rehabilitative, etc)
3. The forum will help in development of 1st Laikipia County Health Strategic Plan (2019-2022) which will be a joint plan for all actor in the spirit of Public Private Partnership (PPP)
4. The forum will anchor its strategic thinking with global declarations and H.E the Governors manifesto which envisions quality and affordable health care for all in Laikipia County
5. There will be stronger collaboration by all actors in communicating the gains and achievements by health actors and there will be an AFYA BULLETIN to be released every month starting from DECEMBER 2019.
6. Also other departments which have roles in health will be engaged: Education, Agriculture, water, environment in the bigger forums
7. Towards the end of November, there will be a Laikipia UHC Conference where all actors will be involved to showcase the LAIKIPIA UHC Model as envisioned by H.E the Governor and actors and stakeholders from within and outside the county will be invited. The academia will be involved in bringing out case studies and research findings from within the county.
