Storm Water and Environment Management Forum
Storm Water and Environment Management Forum is a Community Based Organization which was initiated by Francis Githui and was registered in 2018. They have been at the forefront in championing for environmental conservation and management. Apparently, they have a project ongoing at Nanyuki dumpsite, where they have been rehabilitating the dumpsite and turning various waste into useful products.
Waste Sorting
On arrival at the dumpsite, Waste is sorted depending on the type of waste for instance there are glass bottles, plastic bottles, used boxes, plastic bags among others. The first picture shows sorted plastic bottles, the second is glass bottles, third is used cartons and the fourth is used up tyres
Tree Nursery
They have established a tree nursery at the dumpsite where they have been planting different tree species including avocado seedlings, loquats, sunflower plant etc. The trees and plants are planted on used milk, juice, sugar packets as is shown in pictures alongside. They have also been using used tires to make tower gardens.
Manufacture of tiles and Cabros
They have been using glass bottles to make tiles. Glass bottles are crushed using a glass bottle crusher. As for the plastic Cabros, the plastics are mixed in different ratios then melted using a plastic densifier and molded into different products. This plastic cabros are considerably cheaper than the concrete cabros.
