Celebrating Mashujaa Day In Laikipia

Laikipia County joined the rest of the country today in celebrating Mashujaa Day in an event led by Laikipia County Governor H.E. Ndiritu Muriithi and Laikipia County Commissioner Daniel Nyameti.
The event took place at Nanyuki Stadium with a lot of caution to maintain Ministry of Healths protocols to keep Covid-19 at bay.
Governor Muriithi reminded Laikipians that they must never forget that Kenyas independence was achieved through brave men and women who fought hard, and paid the ultimate price, for our freedom.
The Governor however, while appreciating the special place the past holds, observed that todays heroes and heroines are coming in different shapes and saving Kenyans in different circumstances:
We often think of heroes Mashujaa in the context of conflict, such as our liberation struggle. This year, however, we are fighting a different kind of war. A war against an invincible enemy, that has affected 40.2 million, and killed over 1.1 million people worldwide, the Governor noted.
To him, health workers must take the front seats at Heroes and Heroines dais. He honoured all Laikipia health workers for their chivalrous commitment to fighting the deadly virus Covid-19.
On his part, County Commissioner Daniel Nyameti hailed the security personnel who have day and night worked with health workers to enforce Covid-19 containment measures. He also promised to intensify security operations in Laikipia North and West, to ensure sustainable peace.
the Deputy Governor, H. E. John Mwaniki reiterated the Governors message and added that the innovators have been playing a vital role in containing the pandemic through such innovations as spray booths, hand washing machines, and manufacturing hand sanitizers.
The County Assembly Speaker Hon. Waigwa Bilha joined in appreciating the role our fore-parents played for Kenyan liberation, as well as the modern heroes and heroines who have lived to the spirit of our National Anthem.
It was a day of retrospection, all invited guests, National and County officials, Laikipians and those who entertained the crowd, re-imagined the Mashujaa Day, and agreed that heroes and heroines of today have Laikipia and Kenyas prosperity on their shoulders and that we shall continue to remind and celebrate them.
Happy Mashujaa Day Laikipians
