Nanyuki Bulk Water Dam Project
The Laikipia County leadership Governor Ndiritu Muriithi and Laikipia Deputy Governor John Mwaniki hosted the Chief Administrative Secretary, Hon. Winnie Guchu and Principal Secretary Mr. Joseph Irungu of Ministry of Water and Sanitation on first of series of public consultation on the Proposed Nanyuki Bulk Water dam project. The leaders interacted with members of County Assembly, the Water Resource users Associations (WRUAs), CFAs, Nanyuki Water Company customers and representatives from other organised user groups.
The CAS and PS assured the residents that Laikipia is among the areas targeted on the Rapid Results Initiative and the Kahurura dam the subject of the visit was one of the initiatives being focused on this year with project being delivered in 36 months.
There will be more public consultations so that nobody is left behind and all mitigation measures are addressed.
Once finished the project will comprise the dam, water treatment plant and reticulation network allowing the NAWASCO to treat 40,000M3 per day. Presently, the treatment plant treats 13,000M3 and this is not enough for the more 100,000 people in Laikipia, Meru and Nyeri dependent on the company to supply water.
