STAKEHOLDERS SIGN MoU TO IMPROVE POOR GRADES IN SCHOOLS

The county government of Laikipia, County Education Board and Laikipia University have signed a memorandum which commits the three institutions to improve the falling standards of education in the county.
Highlights of the agreement include a Rapid Results Improvement Programme (RRIP) to change the downward trajectory of performance by local students in examinations.
This action came amid concern over the declining standards of education. The county did not have a single Straight A in 1029 KCSE exams. 70 percent of Form Four candidates got Grade D and below.
The county had a mean score of 3.7 which is below its previous years.
His Excellency Governor Ndiritu Muriithi, Laikipia University vice-chancellor Prof Rotich and chairman of the CEB Prof Kanjogu signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions during a stakeholders meeting held at Laikipia University on Friday, July 13, 2018.
The meeting brought together all stakeholders in education sector and 150 Laikipia secondary school principals who are expected to customize the rapid results improvement programme in Education(Ripe) to fit their respective institutions.
As a results of the initiative 10 best student in every secondary school will be given a one-week mentorship programme in August.
Schools should retain all Form Four candidates in school and assess the extremely needy cases for help
Each sub-county was assigned a mentor in the Laikipia University to work with sub-county directors of education.
The schools will form motivational clusters
Stakeholders hope have a countywide strategic plan four education sector by September.
