Laikipia Innovators Get Free Training On Financial Literacy

Laikipias top-tier innovators have gone through a training on financial literacy offered by professionals from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.
The training is intended to help SMEs grow to a level of creating additional job opportunities in the county.
We want to support innovators in their entrepreneurship journey. County governments ought to be centers of invention and innovation, and that is why we commend Laikipia for taking a step in the right direction, said Julius Mwatu Chairman of ICPAK council.
The county government partnered with ICPAK to hold the training at the County Social Hall. It is the first such partnership between the two institutions.
Speaking during the meeting H.E Hon Ndiritu Muriithi emphasized on the role of the county government in promoting innovations within the county.
We want to create a suitable environment to enable growth of innovation, which is why the county government is partnering with ICPAK to ensure innovators are equipped with a sound understanding of financial management and practical skills in accounting, the Governor said.
This, the Governor said, will in turn enable them to expand their business, improve the local economy and create more jobs for Laikipia.
ICPAK has 23,000 members spread across the country. Fifteen of them volunteered to train to encourage and support the Laikipia innovators.
The 50 were trained on basic accounting, bookkeeping, recording and cash flow management, budgeting and risk management, financial management and entrepreneurial skills.
H.E John Mwaniki commended innovators for the progress of various projects and said that the county is planning to set up a 200 acre industrial park in Naibor to boost industrialization in the county.
Also present in the meeting were the CEC members for Finance and Trade, ICAPK officials, and officials from the county government, the Laikipia County Development Authority and the Laikipia County Enterprise Fund.
Laikipia has a lot of things going for it that make it prime innovative territory. In terms of population age, the county is one of the youngest in Kenya. According to the countys statistical abstract, youth below the age of 35 make up 70% of the countys population.
