Laikipia is among counties that will pilot a project for early detection and treatment of breast and cervical cancers.
The project initiated jointly by County First Ladies Association (CFLA), Roche and African Cancer Foundation seeks to empower community health volunteers and clinicians.
this was revealed Monday, 19th August 2019, when Laikipia First Lady HE Maria Mbeneka hosted CFLA led by the chair HE Nazi Kivutha, the program officer HE Dorothy Nyongo and other partners Eomen for cancer, Roche and African cancer Foundation at County House, Nanyuki.
Laikipia County was identified for a cancer awareness pilot project along with other seven counties out of the 47.
Empowering community health volunteers and clinicians in participating in cancer awareness activities especially for cervical and breast cancer will help in early detection and treatment of the scourge.
The project comes at a time when the county government is shifting its health policy to focus more on preventive and promotive health services to save on millions of shillings spent on curing preventable diseases.
The envisaged policy seeks to empower community health volunteers and public health officers. It has already engaged 650 community health volunteers who have been enrolling house holds to the national health insurance scheme, NHIF.
