County Executive Committee Lauds Teams Fighting Covid 19

Nanyuki, 30th April, 2020..The Laikipia County Executive Committee chaired by H. E Governor Ndiritu Muriithi held a virtual meeting on Thursday to take stock of the efforts the government continues to put in place to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and also to consider the normal government business.
It noted with great satisfaction the efforts that have been put in place by various teams of departmental officers to keep the citizens safe from the pandemic.
To date there has been no Covid-19 case reported within the county. There have been 130 alerts so far received of which 86 have qualified for quarantine. From the number of those in quarantine, 67 have been discharged while 19 are currently under self-quarantine. Thirty-nine (39) did not meet the criteria to be quarantined based on the guidance Ministry of Health issued protocols.
A total of five (5) of these were quarantined in the county facilities.
Fortunately, when their samples were taken for testing, they all returned negative and are now being treated for other pre-existing conditions.
Twenty-five (25) samples had been taken to the National Influenza Laboratory for testing an ALL turned negative. The County Executive Committee wishes to applaud the Department of Health and Medical Services (DHMS), disease surveillance team and case management teams, the enforcement, security, public health officers and community health volunteers working tirelessly at the entry and exit points that are involved in the screening, recording and maintenance of a movement manifest that is of great value to efforts related to contact tracing if any need arises.
Since this exercise started in March as a frontline effort, we have continued to strengthen its capacity for efficiency and efficacy. For instance in the period 1st April 2020 to 16th April 2020, across all the screening points, two hundred and thirty one thousand (231,000) travelers had been screened.
The committee also appreciated the county's level of preparedness especially in terms of facilities preparedness both with the quarantine and isolation sites at the Nanyuki ASK Showground as well as in Nyahururu and Nanyuki referral hospitals.
Also recognized for their great efforts are the teams behind and working on the development of the zero contact food distribution system as well as the online shopping systems.
The multi-agency team operating the 24-hour coordination and communication centre we also cited. Since its operationalization on 27th March 2020, the centre has documented a total of 80 alerts and enquiries through the county's Covid-19 hotlines.
Appreciated the gravity of the pandemic, it has been deeply noted that beside massive disruption to normal and mainstream operations that has been witnessed, there will be an unprecedented negative impact on the economy. Resultantly, the Committee reiterates its commitment to cushion citizens against these adverse effects by the continuous review of its programmes.
In keeping a focus on looking forward, in addition, the Committee has delved into the operational conduct of key government business particularly by focusing on budgetary preparatory process of the incoming financial year 2020/2021.
The Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to apply all its available resources to make sure that citizens are best facilitated to live through the pandemic in the best way possible, both in the short run but even more, in the long term.
