Multi Agency Consultative Meeting To Streamline Land Issues

Nanyuki, 15th July, 2020.......... Laikipia County Government today convened a multi sectoral consultative meeting that brought together various stakeholders on a platform to discuss matters land use. The participants discussed at length various issues touching on the history of physical planning, the extent of violations on existing plans, and the social economic and environmental impact of the encroachments to Laikipia and beyond.
The meeting also sought to understand the legal aspects that guide land use as well as classification, all in bid to understand and reverse the impact of land violation going into the future.
The multi-agency meeting marked the starting point in the rejuvenated bid to try and come up with a lasting solution regarding land questions in the county. In particular, the thorny issues of irregular land titling, abuse of allotment letters and the reclaiming of public land that has found its way into private ownership were addressed.
The team, drawn from various departments at county and national level sought to reach common ground through proper coordination and solve encroachment cases and land grabbing through a streamlined framework that will ensure due processes in land transactions are adhered to.
Going forward, the team agreed that individual parties will play their respective roles and follow due measures according to the law in approval of buildings, issuance of title deeds, demarcation of roads and railway paths.
The meeting saw the attendance of Governor Ndiritu Muriithi, Deputy Governor John Mwaniki, County Secretary Karanja Njora, County Commissioner Daniel Nyameti, Nema County Director Jackson Maina, representatives from National Land Commission, physical plnning, and WARMA, County Assembly Speaker Patrick Waigwa and several MCAs. CECS from the departments of water, infrastructure and administration were also present among other senior government officials.
