The county government of Laikipia, through the department of water, environment, and natural resources, held a multi-stakeholder validation workshop for the Participatory Climate Risk Assessment report, which is set to scale up climate change Action in the county.
This was an inclusive and participatory exercise that allowed participants to actively review, discuss, and provide valuable insights into the findings of the PCRA report that highlighted climate-related risks and vulnerabilities in each of the county's 15 wards.
During the workshop, common climate vulnerabilities such as drought, invasive 'plant' species in the Laikipia North (Opuntia), and human-wildlife conflicts were identified as key areas that need to be prioritized and addressed in the county.
These and other proposed adaptation investment areas will be incorporated into County Climate Change Action, which will prioritize county and ward-level investments projects to build resilience to climate change.
The validation of the PCRA report now puts Laikipia in a good position to qualify for the Climate Change Resilience Investment Grant set to be disbursed based on the county's performance.
In attendance were representatives from the National Treasury PIU (Program Implementation Unit), who assured of their technical support as the county strides towards developing robust and comprehensive Reports.
The workshop brought together various stakeholders, including county government officials led by CEC Water, Ms. Leah Njeri, and representatives from the National Treasury. Under the FLLoCA program, CSOs, KFS, IMPACT, and Representatives of ward climate committees.
