County Assembly Boosts County Emergency Fund To Facilitate War Against Covid 19

The County Assembly of Laikipia has increased the countys Emergency Fund from Kshs 10 million to Kshs 138 million to enable the government mitigate effects of Covid-19 pandemic.
The changed were contained in the Supplementary Budget which the assembly members passed during a special sitting on Monday, May 4th, 2020. During the special plenary sitting the MCAs unanimously approved the funds to enable the executive put in place more measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Marmanet MCA Simon Kanyutu said lots of development projects have been puton hold so as to concentrate on cushioning residents from the effects of
the pandemic that has taken a heavy toll on the global economy.
"Before we made this amendment, the budget had set Sh10 million EmergencyFund but we have today increased it to Sh138 million. Many projects
in the pipeline will not be rolled out due to this pandemic. We arepartnering with the government to fight it out of this country," Mr Kanyutu said.
Tigithi Ward MCAs Mutahi Muritu who is also the chairperson of the Education committee said the assembly also set aside KSh50 million that will cater for bursary for school-going children when the schools reopen.
"We have also factored in the interests of our children so that they continue with their education smoothly when learning resumes. In this
budget review, we also want each ward to have 15 water pans to boost agriculture and eliminate food shortage," the Tigithi MCA said.
The assembly will have another special sitting early next week to discuss the appropriations bill.
A motion tabled by the M.C.A for Igwa-Miti ward Hon.Joseph Kuguru seeking to waive interest on land rates and penalties for the months of April and May as well as a 50% waiver of the monthly parking fees for Matatu owners for the two said months was also been passed.
All the COVID 19 guidelines by World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Governments were observed in the sitting.
