Laikipia County is mourning the sudden demise of Mr. Stephen Kimani Gakenia, popularly known as "Wa Gakenia" or "Chairman",
Laikipians, led by Governor Ndiritu Muriithi, will remember the late Gakenia as a hard-working person, friendly, dedicated, and a pillar of strong leadership in his community.
The businessman passed on early Monday morning.
On behalf of the citizens of Laikipia, the entire County Government of Laikipia, my family and myself, at this moment of grief, I join in commiserating and sending a message of condolences to his wife Jacqueline, sons' Chris and Brian, daughter Gakenia, his beloved grandson Nathan and his larger extended family as they mourn their loved husband, father and grandfather. May the good Lord Rest his soul in Eternal Peace, said Governor Muriithi in his condolence message.
Mr. Gakenia hailed from Shamanei Village in Igwamiti Ward. A pioneer in many aspects in his life, at Shamanei Primary School, where he had his early education. He holds the record up to date for the highest distinction of qualification at his primary school examinations. This saw him join the coveted Starehe Boys Centre for his high school education where he continued with his academic excellence.
the deceased was among the very first pioneer investors in independent power generation in the country. An astute businessman with major investments across the country and a consummate politician in his own right.
Eternal rest grant unto him, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
