Contract Signing Between NAWASCO & UNISON SACCO For A Construction Of A 32 Million Sewer System .

Nanyuki Water and Sewerage Company, NAWASCO, has entered into a contract with UNISON Sacco to construct a 32 million sewer system in UNISON’s Taji Estate Project.
The land in which the sewer system will be built came to be after Unison Sacco, in its quest to have their customers acquire affordable houses sold the land, in plots, to their customers.
Residential places, however, cannot be built on land that do no have utilities such as water, power and a sewerage system. It is against that backdrop, that this contract between NAWASCO and Unison Sacco is founded.
“I welcome this partnership, because it is the only way urban planning is done. Why would you build houses, personal or residential, but you do not have a plan of a hygiene waste disposal?” Governor Ndiritu Muriithi paused, while overseeing the contract signing.
In the contract, Unison Sacco will fund the whole project while NAWASCO implements it. While the Sacco will own the sewer infrastructure, NAWASCO will supply water, manage and maintain the system.
The Taji Estate Project, sitting on 542-acre land in Nanyuki will be home to hundreds of customers and the sewerage system will improve the quality of land, solve sanitation questions while also observing environmental laws.
The contract was signed by NAWASCO Managing Director Kennedy Gitonga and Unison Sacco’s Chief Executive Officer, John Njogu in presence of HE Governor Ndiritu Muriithi and Unison’s Chairman James Muhandi.
